Tooth Extractions

We prioritize keeping your natural teeth healthy and in place, but sometimes a tooth must be removed for the benefit of the overall oral health of a patient.

A tooth extraction is always the last option, but depending on the circumstances, it may be absolutely necessary.

At Flash Dental, we prioritize keeping your natural teeth healthy and in place, but sometimes a tooth must be removed for the benefit of the overall oral health of a patient. A tooth extraction is always the last option, but depending on the circumstances, it may be absolutely necessary. Our dentist is typically able to restore teeth that have suffered from cracks, breaks, or even decay by opting for dental fillings, dental crowns, or root canals. Sometimes, however, the damage to the tooth is too severe and requires an extraction. Before a tooth extraction is performed, our dentist always answers any questions a patient may have. Your concerns are our concerns, so we will never take steps without you being completely informed.

Reasons for a Tooth Extraction

Along with severe decay and traumatic damage, there are other reasons why a dental extraction may be necessary:

  • Failed root canal therapy
  • Fractures
  • Impacted teeth
  • Infection
  • Orthodontics
  • Overcrowding
  • Trauma

If you have noticed issues with your teeth or have pain in certain areas of your mouth, then it may stem from one of the previously mentioned problems. An appointment with our dentist would be a prudent decision.

What To Do and Not Do After a Tooth Is Removed

Before the procedure, the area is completely numbed in order to keep the patient from feeling pain. Eventually, however, that numbness wears off, but the area still has to heal. As the area heals, we provide medicine to address the issue of pain to help maintain the comfort of our patients. Once a tooth has been removed, there are certain guidelines that must be adhered to in order to ensure the area heals completely and without complication. If you have undergone a tooth removal, then please follow these restrictions:

  • Avoid smoking
  • Avoid aggressive rinsing
  • Chew away from the surgical area
  • Clean the surgical site gently
  • Eat only soft foods for a few days
  • Limit strenuous activity for the first 24 hours
  • No drinking through a straw
  • Take medications as prescribed

How to Replace the Missing Tooth

Our dentist will always discuss the options for replacing the tooth being extracted. There are numerous options, like dentures, implants, or bridges. It is important to fill the space left over from the procedure, regardless of the size. Doing so protects the remaining teeth, helps with oral function, and restores your smile. We will answer all questions and address any concerns regarding these options. If you are experiencing any of the issues we mentioned above, then call us today or fill out our online form to schedule your appointment with us. We look forward to addressing all of your dental needs.

We always work to save every tooth, but if a tooth needs an extraction, our dental staff works to make it a painless process.
